Musk stated on Friday (14 July) that the objective of his new artificial intelligence company, xAI, is to “understand the universe.” In a frequently meandering 90-minute Twitter Spaces audio conversation, the billionaire discussed his vision for xAI for the first time, as well as the evolution of the Earth and the fragility of civilization.
Musk quipped that xAI’s mission statement would be “what the hell is really going on?” in an effort to increase knowledge of the universe. Musk announced the formation of xAI on Wednesday, after accusing OpenAI and Google of developing the technology without considering human hazards.
He claimed xAI would compete with the likes of Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI by attempting to create a “good AGI.” AGI stands for “artificial general intelligence,” which is a term for AI that can solve problems like a person.
Do you know that a US appeals court turned down the Federal Trade Commission’s request to stop Microsoft from buying Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard for $69 billion (£53 billion) on Friday, July 14? The appeals court’s decision eliminates one of the few remaining obstacles preventing Microsoft from concluding the transaction and expanding its gaming business:
Musk stated that xAI would work closely with his other companies, Twitter and Tesla (TSLA.O), during the Spaces session, which was delayed because Twitter had to “tweak the algorithm” to advertise the chat to more users.
The organization will use public messages to train its AI models and may also collaborate with Tesla on AI software development. Musk has stated that such an alliance would be of “mutual benefit” and may speed up Tesla’s development of self-driving capabilities.
In addition, he claimed that all AI companies were illegally training their models with Twitter data. Musk, who has advocated for AI regulation, stated that he has pressed for meetings with White House officials and emphasized the significance of AI regulation in his recent meetings with China’s top government officials.
