Google Chrome’s New AI-Powered Feature Summarizes Web Articles for Seamless Browsing

Google Chrome is introducing a groundbreaking feature through its AI-powered Search Generative Experience (SGE). This innovative capability now extends beyond summarizing search results to encompass the task of summarizing entire articles that users encounter on the web. In a recent blog post, Google unveiled this development, highlighting its potential to enhance users’ browsing experiences.

Termed “SGE while browsing,” this new feature is the latest addition to Google’s Search Labs program, launched as an early experiment. Those who have already opted into the SGE will gain access, while others can individually enable this feature. Initially debuting on Android and iOS versions of the Google app, it will soon make its way to the Chrome browser on desktops.

Upon activation, users accessing articles through the Google app will notice a distinctive icon at the bottom of their screens. Upon tapping this icon, the AI-generated “key points” from the article will be presented. It is important to note that this functionality is designed exclusively for publicly available web articles, articles marked as paywalled by publishers will not be compatible with this feature.

Google Chrome Update

Do you know that My AI, Snapchat’s artificial intelligence chatbot, made quite a stir among its users on Tuesday night (15 August)? People reported that the once-helpful AI not only ceased to respond to their communications but also posted a mysterious and temporary Story on its profile:

Google has not stopped at article summarization, several other enhancements are being introduced to elevate the SGE experience. When querying subjects such as science, economics, or history, users will have the ability to hover over specific terms to receive instant definitions or visual aids related to the topic. Additionally, Google has taken steps to improve the comprehensibility of SGE’s coding-related summaries.

The inception of SGE was unveiled at the Google I/O event in May, and since then, it has undergone significant refinement. The company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, expressed satisfaction with the progress made during a recent earnings call. Pichai conveyed that user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, affirming that the evolution of Search towards incorporating such advanced AI functionalities is inevitable.

In conclusion, Google’s introduction of the “SGE while browsing” feature represents a remarkable stride in enhancing the online reading experience. By harnessing the power of AI to summarize articles and provide interactive elements, Google continues to redefine the boundaries of how we engage with content on the web.
